Summary:

A rocky icy planet with extreme surface temperatures and atmospheric pressure, located close to the Colonia Bridge.

Description:

The third planet of this system is classified as a Rocky Ice world. It has extreme characteristics, however: due to runaway greenhouse warming, its has a surface temperature barely lower than the red dwarf star it's orbiting. From above, the planet appears almost completely dark, with some red coloring:

The atmospheric pressure is 142,626 atm, and the average surface temperature of 2,245 K is only slightly lower than its parent star, an M class red dwarf that is 49 ls away. In these conditions, nothing is visible of the surface.

Note that despite all this, the planet shows no signs of volcanic activity. Scanners estimate a mixed composition of 32.2% Ice, 45.3% Rock and 22.5% Metal, hence the planet's classification. Whether surface volcanism is really absent or not might forever remain a mystery though, as these conditions make it virtually impossible to send down anything to the surface intact.

Filed under Glitches because all this is due to a bug where the greenhouse effect of water vapour is much higher than it should be.

According to someone I spoke to, this planet should theoretically be glowing, and not pitch black; as under these conditions not only the suface but also the lower layers of the water athmosphere should turn to plasma, making that planet further impossible; but I do not know how to integrate that in the entry
