Summary:

A shepherd moon along the path to Amundsen's Star offers spectacular views of its parent planet's metal-rich ring. Its position makes it likely the southernmost shepherd moon in the Milky Way.

Description:

Lyed MS-B d13-0 is a waypoint along the charted route to Amundsen's Star. Body 3 a in this system is a shepherd moon, orbiting just a few hundred km from the metal-rich ring of its parent gas giant.

This view from the ring's edge shows the moon, just a few hundred km away. The ring intersects with the moon's orbital cruise envelope, allowing adept pilots to cruise through the edge of the ring at close to 30 km/s.

The rings are prominent in the moon's sky, and tidal forces from the gas giant sufficiently heat the moon's core to cause volcanic activity.

Because of its distance from the galactic center, the moon also offers an excellent view of the Milky Way's disc. Planet 2 is visible in this image against planet 3's ring.

Conversely, almost no stars are visible in most other directions, offering a clear view of the two Magellanic Clouds.

This scenic location also offers an excellent opportunity to refill on the materials needed for FSD recharges, as Lyed MS-B d13-0 is classified as a "green system", where all the required materials can be found.
