SUMMARY | ||
A planetary nebula around a black hole with 78 satellite and companion bodies. | → | A planetary nebula around a black hole with 78 satellite and companion bodies. |
DESCRIPTION | ||
→ | ||
In the depths of Mare Somnia, the Sea of Dreams, sleeps Morpheus, forever cloaked in an impenetrable event horizon, enveloped in the blue robe of a planetary nebula, and attended by an entourage of 78 minions: giants and dwarfs, planets and stars. This is a planetary nebula surrounding a stellar mass black hole (only 2.9 solar masses) in a region of the galaxy where nebulae are almost absent. Notable among Morpheus' acolytes is body AB 3 g, with a valuable mix of exobiology that includes Osseus Pellebantus, Tussock Triticum, and Clypeus Lacrimam, one of four life-bearing bodies in the system. 50,000 light seconds distant, a class F companion hosts an extensive planetary system that includes a moon C 10 b that is closely and rapidly orbited by a moon of its own, whose pock-marked surface provide fine views of its parent and grandparent planets. In all, there are 75 planets in the system, of which 57 are landable. The system was first discovered in 3302 by Commander Skafre, but then forgotten for 9 years until its recent rediscovery. | → | In the depths of Mare Somnia, the Sea of Dreams, sleeps Morpheus, forever cloaked in an impenetrable event horizon, enveloped a luminous blue robe, and attended by an entourage of 78 minions: giants and dwarfs, planets and stars.
