DESCRIPTION

Located around the NGC 6188 nebula,Morgan's Rock is one of the few remote asteroid bases that are found at larger distances away from Sol. This system has enjoyed some popularity among explorers, as it's around 4,400 ly North of the bubble - although it sees nowhere near as much traffic as the stations along the Sol-Colonia route do. Still, for explorers heading North or North-East, it is the only option for a stop at a base.
Unfortunately, the station's services do not include a shipyard, nor outfitting.

The base was established by the Interstellar Mining Corp. in 3302, there were no events of note for years. Similar to most other remote asteroid bases, a number of surface settlements were eventually built in the system, all focusing on either mining or agriculture. However, in 3308, a large and influential criminal faction has showed up in the system: the Consortium.

To quote the Pilot's Federation's Codex article, this organization is one of the most successful crime syndicates currently operating. (It is the only one to have an article of its own in the knowledge base.) The Consortium was founded two centuries ago, and has been in operation since, as efforts by law enforcement to shut it down were largely unsuccessful. The fate of its legendary leader, Catelyn Voss, remains unknown, and there are rumours that she has retired "and is now living a life of quiet anonymity in a remote corner of space".

Why the Consortium chose to expand to this system remains unknown. Still, in only a couple of months, the syndicate took over most of the system. As of 3308. October, they operate Morgan's Rock, and most of the planetary settlements as well. Interstellar Mining Corp. retains control of a few mining settlements, but the agricultural ones and the asteroid base have all been taken over. Since then, the Consortium doesn't appear to have made any visible moves: what their plans with this remote system might be remains unknown.
