SUMMARY | ||
With a ring distance of only 1140 km Moon 8 A orbits his parent Gas Giant elliptical underneath the ring. | → | A moon circling its parent gas giant's rings at a distance of only 1,140 km, on a slightly inclined orbit. |
DESCRIPTION | ||
→ | ||
Located near NGC 6231 this helium-rich system contains a moon very close to the ring of its Class II Gas Giant. The elliptical orbit offers an overwhelming view from huge parts of the ring. Silicate Vapour Geysirs and a paired HRGG binary also give great photo opportunities. | → | Located somewhat close to the NGC 6231 open cluster, this helium-rich system contains a moon (body 8 a) which orbits close to the rings of its parent, a Class II Gas Giant. The short distance (1,140 km) and slightly inclined orbit offer an impressive view, encompassing much of the rings. The moon's surface is also dotted with Silicate Vapour Geysers, and a relatively nearby Helium-Rich Gas Giant also gives great photo opportunities. |
