SUMMARY | ||
An icy moon orbiting a gas giant on a highly inclined orbit almost perpindicular to the gas giant's rings. | → | An icy moon orbiting a gas giant on a highly inclined orbit, almost perpendicular to the gas giant's rings. |
DESCRIPTION | ||
→ | ||
This system contains a gas giant (body B 6) with three rings, the third one being over 3 ls wide with an outer radius of over 8.5 ls. There is a huge gap of over 5 ls between the second and third ring, cleared out by four shepherd moons orbiting in between them. view from space view fro the surface orrery view | → | This system contains a gas giant (B 6) with three rings, the third one being about 3 ls wide, with an outer radius of 8.5 ls. There is a large gap of over 5 ls between the second and third rings, cleared out by four shepherd moons orbiting in between them. The orbit of the fifth moon (B 6 e) lies outside the outer ring and is inclined by over 85 degrees, providing a breathtaking view of the three ring systems and the inner moons from its icy surface. Frequently getting in a position directly above that cleared out space between the icy rings, the moon is affectionately nicknamed "Ice Shanty" after a temporary structure used for shelter that is built above a hole in the ice for fishing. |
